Conservation is both an ethic and a practice that involves the careful preservation of the environment and biodiversity, as well as the sustainable use of natural resources.
Best Practice
A best practice is a technique or methodology that, through experience and research, has proven to reliably lead to a desired result. A commitment to using the best practices in any field is a commitment to using all the knowledge and technology at one’s disposal to ensure success.
Protected Areas
A protected area, as defined by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), is “an area of land and/or sea especially dedicated to the protection and maintenance of biological diversity and of natural and associated cultural resources, managed through legal or other effective means”.
Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs)
TFCAs are relatively large areas of land that straddle the borders of two or more countries. They include large-scale natural systems and/or protected areas. TFCAs involve a unique level of international co-operation between the participating countries, particularly issues related to the opening of international boundaries.
