Tourism Policy Environment
The tourism sector in Angola is regulated by the Ministry of Hotel and Tourism, which was established under the Decree Law no. 5 of 1996.
Decree no. 62 of 1997 established the Institute of the Progress of the Tourism (INFOTUR), with the goal that INFOTUR would
implement the government’s tourism development programme.
In 2003/2004, the Ministry of Hotel and Tourism released a document called “The Tourism in Angola”, which provides an overview of the tourism sector in Angola, including information on legislation, arrivals/source markets and international co-operation.
From 2009 onwards, the Ministry plans to revitalise existing hotels and increase national and international investment in tourism, with the goal of increasing tourism’s positive contribution to the national economy and to local economic development. This will be achieved in part by professional training and improved tourism planning.
